Yes you can see the airport on Google Earth. It is located about 5 miles west on highway16 from the town of Smithers near Lake Kathlyn. It isn't a big airport and has only one landing strip.

There are a lot of mostly black bears in the area but also some grizzly bears. It is rare to see a grizzly bear, identifiable by its size and the hump on its shoulders, if you see one be extremely respectful and give it a LOT of space, do not think that being in a vehicle will be safe, drive away. Not only are they very unpredictable and huge, they can kill you with one swipe of their claws. One claw on the bear at the airport is as big as your hand.

Small airport in a really beautiful area. Fast security lines. Free Wifi. There is one cafe for food which is decent. Car rentals on site.

Also, in the airport there is a display case of one of the biggest golden tip grizzly bears ever seen in BC that was shot by wildlife officers for hunting farmers sheep. It was so big they taxidermy-ed it afterwards. Don't worry too much about the bear being shot, it was charging the wildlife officers at the time and they were lucky to get it before it got them.

Lack of flights especially when planes don't land and no concession.

Welcome to one of the prettiest towns in Northern BC. There is a lot to see and do and a lot of pristine back country. Wildlife, mountains, lakes, rivers. Ask the locals where to go to really go to enjoy a real outdoor adventure.

When you get there the first thing you are treated to is a wonderful view of Lake Kathlyn and the Hudson Bay Mountain.
