I took it to Freelance. When I described the situation he knew exactly what the problem was: A "cracked flex plate".

Guess where I will be going for my future vehicle problems and maintenance? That's right. Freelance gets all my business from now on.

I am a mechanic with over 40 years exp. I went here with my daughter, to ask about an air conditioning issue with her vehicle. My daughter introduced us and made it clear that i am a mechanic. He immediately started asking how much she loved her A/C. Then he got me to bring her vehicle into the shop and without ever hooking up any diagnostic equipment he went off about why she was having this problem and when he was done his rant, he had her convinced it was going to a $1500.00 bill. He didn't talk to me...her father....with over 40 years exp. I didn't even exist. I had told him at the onset, that I had experienced this before, and that I wanted the system evacuated and recharged. He totally ignored me. He spoke only to her. While all this was going on, I looked around for A/C equipment. He didn't have any. He should have told me that he didn't. The next day I called a mobile guy. He came, did what I wanted him to, for $175.00. AND...he did it right in the driveway. In closing, he presented himself as disrespectful, arrogant and dishonest. For these reasons, I wouldn't recommend that anybody should go there.

And also was more than honest and fair.

When I picked up the vehicle it ran like new. Power was really excellent and smooth. It also handled way better thanks to the new ball joints. I was shown the defective parts, not that I didn't believe they were bad at 220,000 kms.

He gave me what I felt was a very fair and reasonable estimate. He later called to confirm the inspection confirmed the flex plate was cracked.

This December, my boyfriend and I were traveling through Smithers on the way to Washington when our Bug broke down. Lance was amazing. He called all over town to try and find parts for us. They finally got a hold of someone who had the parts, gave us directions, and sent us on our way.

The big surprise. They did not charge me for the labour of replacing the ball joints!! Thank you Freelance.

Then I got more news. He had inspected the vehicle and discovered dangerously worn out ball joints. The other mechanic shops had not inspected like that.

I had a power loss problem. 2 other shops had replaced all kinds of sensors, wires, plugs, a catalatic converter, etc, etc. But they failed to fix the power loss problem!

I stopped in very briefly to ask an unrelated question and ended up chatting with lance about a power and transmission problem I was experiencing. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and clearly loves what he does. Go see him!
